Is Walker Avenue Apartments owned by UMBC?
Walker Avenue Apartments is an affiliated housing community located on the UMBC campus and serves UMBC students exclusively. Walker Avenue is not owned by Maryland Baltimore County (MBC). All questions regarding the Walker License should be directed to Capstone On-Campus Management at [email protected] or 443-901-4713.
What are the eligibility requirements for living at Walker Avenue Apartments?
To live at Walker Avenue Apartments, students must meet UMBC’s housing eligibility requirements and be actively enrolled. Specific requirements are outlined during the application process.
Is there a credit requirement ?
Undergraduate students must have 39 credits recognized by UMBC prior to applying to Walker Avenue. All residents must be enrolled full-time at UMBC: Undergraduates must be enrolled in at least 12 credits. Graduate students must be enrolled in at least 9 credits.
What are the guarantor’s qualifications?
Guarantors must be at least 24 years old, Be a U.S. resident, and Have a U.S. bank account,
What is a Guaranty of License and why do I need one?
A Guaranty of License is a financial agreement signed by a parent or guardian who agrees to cover housing costs if the student is unable to pay.
Is a guarantor required to live at Walker Avenue?
Yes. All prospective residents are required to have a guarantor and will not be permitted to move in without a completed Guarantor Form on file.
How do I apply?
Students must complete the housing application through the official UMBC Housing Portal.
What are important Housing Selection dates to remember?
For the current Housing Selection cycle:
- Applications open: March 2, 2026
- Application deadline: March 6 (or until capacity is reached)
- Roommate group formation deadline: March 13
- Selection times sent: March 23
- Housing Selection dates: March 25–26

What is Housing Selection?
Housing Selection is the spring process where eligible UMBC students apply, form roommate groups, and select their apartment for the upcoming academic year through the UMBC Housing Portal. For full details and timelines, visit the UMBC Residential Life Application Page.

Who is eligible to participate in Housing Selection?
Current UMBC students — including on-campus residents and commuting students — may be eligible to participate.
f you are not currently enrolled at UMBC, your application will be placed on a waitlist until the Housing Selection process concludes. Students who are not eligible for Housing Selection but are interested in living at Walker Avenue should complete the General Interest Application.

Who has priority during the Housing Selection process?
Selection times are assigned based on:
- Group size (larger groups receive priority)
- Average completed credits within the group Selection times are sent to your UMBC email prior to the selection period.
If demand exceeds available space, some students may not receive a selection time but may still be assigned housing based on eligibility and availability.
What happens during my assigned selection time?
The designated group leader must log into the UMBC Housing Portal during the assigned selection window to choose from available apartments. If a group does not select a space during the selection period, assignments may be made by the Licensing Coordinator after Housing Selection closes.
Can I live with my friends?
Yes. Students may form roommate groups through the UMBC Housing Portal:
To participate in Housing Selection as a group:
- All members must complete the housing application
- Sign their housing license
- Pay the $200 reservation fee by the deadline One student will serve as the “group leader” and submit preferences on behalf of the group.
Please note: Students must be eligible and have completed required steps to be added to a group.
What if I don’t have a specific roommate?
That’s okay. During your application, you will complete a preferences section to help match you with a compatible roommate. You may also use the Roommate Search feature within the Housing Portal to view and connect with other applicants. If you do not select a roommate during Housing Selection, staff will use your preferences to assign the best available match. You will receive roommate contact information prior to move-in through the UMBC Housing Portal.
What license terms are available at Walker Avenue?
Walker Avenue Apartments offers two license options:
- Annual License
- Begins in the summer term • Includes summer, fall, and spring
- Ends on spring graduation day
- Academic License
- Includes fall and spring semesters only
- Ends on spring graduation day
How do I pay my housing bill?
Walker Avenue Apartments is financially separate from UMBC.
Housing payments must be made directly to Walker Avenue.
You may pay:
- Online through the Resident Portal
- In person at the Management Office
Can I use Financial Aid to pay for housing?
Yes. Students who are expecting Financial Aid or scholarship refunds may request to defer fall and/or spring payments until their refund is received.
To qualify, students must:
- Complete all required Financial Aid steps through UMBC
- Submit a Financial Aid/Scholarship Payment Plan Addendum each semester
Addendum forms are available in the Entrata Resident Portal or through the Walker Management Office.
Are payment plans available?
Yes. While housing fees are typically billed by semester (summer, fall, spring), Walker Avenue also offers installment plans:
- Annual License – 12 installments
- Academic License – 8 installments
What items are not included with my license at Walker?
Walker Avenue does not provide the following items:
- TV
- Computer
- Ethernet/internet cables
- Bed linens, blankets, or pillows
- Toilet paper
- Shower curtains, towels, or bathmats
- Cleaning supplies or toilet plungers (vacuums may be borrowed from the office)
- Microwaves or toasters
- Utensils, pots, pans, or dishware
- Floor or table lamps

Where can I find my roommate’s contact information?
Roommate contact information is available in the UMBC StarRez Housing Portal.
When is check-in for returning residents?
For Academic License residents, check-in typically takes place at the start of the license term, generally around August 21. Specific dates and instructions will be shared prior to move-in.
Can I move in earlier than my scheduled check-in date?
In some cases, yes. Students approved for early arrival — such as participation in a university group, orientation program, or other approved circumstance — will receive updated move-in details through the UMBC Housing Portal:
